Rant and Moving Forward

Hello!

good luck Emma is a submission to the Cosmic Horrors III Game Jam and this is my first game I've completed! Yay!! I just want to rant a little bit on the process and where I see this project going forward.

I had dabbled with RPG Maker MZ before but I never made a functioning game with it. I learned a lot about the engine from hours of trial and error, reading RPG Maker forums, and watching many YouTube videos. The time I had to actually work on the project was shortened due to my lack of knowledge on how to get the game to function correctly. For hours the player couldn't even move (that wasn't a fun fix)! Consequently, I had to make many changes to the story and overall game just so I could get a somewhat finished project in time for the deadline.

Now that the jam is over, I have more time to work on the project. However, that will have to wait. I'm a full time college student. Whether I get to it or not, here are some of the changes I would like to make to the game:

Future Changes

- Add at least 2 illustrated character sprites when Emma is talking

- Fix the words in the text box and make a custom text box

- Make a better menu and options screen

- Make the loop less boring

- Make some changes to the "white void dimension"

- Make the game have at least two proper endings (doesn't just bring you back to the title screen) (bonus if the endings come with full illustrations)

Going More In Depth on Certain Future Changes...

The "white void dimension" and "ending" was quite literally added about 3-2 hours before the jam officially ended, so these two things are far from finished. Going forward, I'd like to add more variations each time you loop to keep it interesting. Additionally, a way to break the loop and get a hopeful ending is what I'd like to add. Also, the text that shows after you interact with the statue figure doesn't make sense. I know. I was very tired and rushed putting it together. I will change that cutscene and add more polish and meaning so that it not only looks good, but it makes sense.

Finishing Thoughts

Overall, I'm happy on what I've done so far. Even if I don't make these changes, I'll work even harder on future projects. I recognize this is no masterpiece. So, if you took the time to read through this log or you downloaded the game, thank you. You're giving me the motivation to keep working. <3
